If you’ve had an email address for a long time or if the wrong person gets it, your inbox can become consumed with spam. Definition of Spam – https://www.spamhaus.org/consumer/definition/
1. You can’t stop someone from emailing your Gmail account…you can only block and unsubscribe:

If you trust the sender you can unsubscribe.
If you don’t trust them, don’t click unsubscribe! That validates your address and you get MORE SPAM – its a FAKE unsubscribe link.
2. You can create rules to filter them:

In Gmail, you can only mark emails as spam/phishing or filter them to trash
Are they in spam or your inbox? If they are in spam – that’s where they should be, if not, mark them as spam/phishing or filter them to trash
3. Be diligent about sending spam from your inbox to the junk folder and vice versa. You can eventually train google to learn what email you would like in your inbox.
4. Whitelist email from known senders:

The bottom line? Once you are on a spammers list you can’t get off, so either ignore the spam and let Gmail delete it for you after 30 days or manually delete it.
